Now owned by the British Racing Drivers’ Club, the 5.9 mile long Silverstone race circuit is located on the site of the former World War II bomber base, RAF Silverstone.
After the war the airfield was used by local amateur racers, in time becoming a well-known race venue, hosting the first British Grand Prix in 1948.
Multiple World F1 Champion, Lewis Hamilton, set the official race lap record on the circuit at the 2019 British Grand Prix, negotiating famous track sections such as Club Corner, the Wellington and Hangar Straights, Brooklands, Woodcote and Becketts, in only 1:27.369 – slightly quicker than the 1948 lap record of 2:52.
With all its motorsport heritage, your group will be in pole position to journey through the past, present and future of British motor racing at the brand-new SILVERSTONE EXPERIENCE. They will get up close and personal to iconic racing cars, including Nigel Mansell’s 1992 Red 5 and discover memorabilia that’s never been seen before, such as Lewis Hamilton’s race suit, boots and helmet, plus a replica of his 2016 Mercedes W07 F1 race car hanging in the atrium.
*Groups Direct customers also enjoy a unique British Racing Drivers’ Club Archive ‘Show & Tell’ session where a member of the Archive team talks to the group about items of particular interest, such as signing-on sheets featuring Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, and much more.
After your buffet lunch your group can practise their skills as an RAF pilot, try their hand at race commentating, learn about the science behind modern motorsport in the Tech Lab, sit in the 360-degree cinema experience, or venture out on the Outdoor Track Trail. There really is something for all motorsport fans, old and new alike.
