The Hovercraft idea developed during the 1950’s when research proved that high speed boats were more efficient when air became trapped under the hull, reducing friction.
A young engineer, Christopher Cockerell, further developed the Hovercraft concept by introducing a powered lift system. This enabled the craft to operate on land, as well as water. So, during the ‘flight’, your group will meet the Hovercraft’s Pilot who will demonstrate what the 72 seater craft is capable of.
A commentary is provided on board as you pass various Forts in the sea and, as this will be a private charter experience, the Hovercraft will deflate and inflate whilst you are on the sea.
Once you arrive in Ryde, on the Isle of Wight, a two course lunch with coffee and mints will be waiting for you. While away the rest of the time either on the beautiful beach at Ryde, or in the independent shops in this beautiful town. Your 10 minute return journey by Hovercraft will take you back to Southsea where you can meet your coach*.
