Horse-Drawn Canal Cruise
This relaxing cruise is the perfect way to see the unspoilt River Wey and Godalming Navigations. The boat will be pulled by one of the heavy horses along both natural river and a canal section and through one of the oldest boat locks in the country. Travel quietly in the time honoured way as generations of river boatmen have throughout history.
The vintage packet boat Iona began life as the Bellerophon, a cargo carrying narrowboat. She was built in 1935 at Woolwich on the Thames by Harland and Wolff for the Grand Union Carrying Company. At 70ft long and 7ft wide, she is the maximum size for boats navigating the inland canal network and could carry up to 35 tons of cargo.
Before your cruise enjoy a delicious two course lunch with tea or coffee located just a 7 minute journey away from the centre of Godalming. The specially prepared menu gives guests a very good choice of mains and sweet desserts. Once on board relax and enjoy the views and the peace and quiet of this wonderful part of the country. After your cruise, enjoy some free time exploring the historic town of Godalming - the first town in the world to have a public electricity supply and electric street lighting.
