Historic Derbyshire

This trip to Derbyshire allows you to step back in time and explore two historical sites as well as having time to relax and enjoy your visit at your leisure.

On Day 2 you will visit Conisbrough Castle. This romantic castle, with stunning views over Conisbrough, inspired Sir Walter Scott’s Ivanhoe and still fires the imagination today. Step inside the crumbling castle walls and be amazed by the unsually well-preserved Keep. The reinstated floors allow you to fully explore the private chambers and steep curving staircases of this impressive castle.

Stare down into the basement, then climb right up to the roof top and drink in dramatic views of the surrounding town and countryside. For 850 years the castle has been a landmark for its community and a symbol of the power, wealth and ambition of the powerful de Warennes who built it.

On your third day why not take a trip to the Peace Gardens, located just around the corner from  your hotel. The Peace Gardens are located outside Sheffield’s gothic Town Hall and were first laid out in 1938 following the demolition of St Paul’s Church. Alternatively you can book an optional excursion to visit the Peak District - please contact the Groups Direct team for more information and pricing.

Day 4 takes you to Chatsworth House and Gardens. Chatsworth is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. The house is renowned for the quality of its art, landscape and hospitality, and it has evolved through the centuries to reflect the tastes, passions and interests of succeeding generations. Having evolved over more than 450 years, the garden continues to change today.

Famous for its rich history, historic and modern waterworks and sculptures, its Victorian rock garden and maze, there is something for everyone in the 105-acre Chatsworth Garden.

Your final day can be spent at your leisure before you depart for home.
