Hertford Canal Cruise
Discover the heritage and rural beauty of the Lea Valley, whilst cruising aboard a modern, fully licensed vessel that is accessible to all.
To start your day, sit down at a local restaurant and enjoy a two course lunch before commencing on your two and a half hour canal cruise. Throughout your cruise, you will have a guided commentary by the friendly skipper.
This popular cruise between Ware and Hertford cruises along the picturesque flood plains of the River Lee. The River Lee, with an abundance of wildlife, connects these two historic towns. On route you will also pass through two original working locks.
The people of the Lee Valley have always called on their local river for many needs: transport, water supply, fishing, flood control, power for mills, and today, pleasure boating.
There is evidence of its use for transport as early as the Bronze Age. The improvements for navigation are among the oldest in the country. In the 17th century, Izaak Walton wrote ‘The Compleat Angler’ based on his experiences of fishing the river.
Once in Hertford you have free time to explore this beautiful town. Why not visit the Hertford Museum? This museum is free to enter and cares for, in excess of, 100,000 objects. The collections include archaeology, paper ephemera, ethnography, fine art, geology, natural history, photographs, social history and the Hertfordshire Regiment collection. They also hold the Addis company archive, including the largest collection of toothbrushes in the UK! Alternatively, do a spot of shopping in the local shopping centre before your coach* comes to pick you up to depart for home.
All boats are fully accessible and have toilets onboard, as well as a licensed bar.
